Learn more about the Alcatel Evolium

The Alcatel Evolium product family encompasses a range of telecommunications equipment designed to support GSM, GPRS, EDGE, and UMTS networks. These products are engineered to facilitate rapid network deployment and expansion while optimising both capital and operational expenditures.

Base Station Subsystem (BSS): The Evolium BSS architecture includes several key components:

  • Base Station Controller (BSC): Manages multiple BTS units, handling radio resource allocation, mobility management, and call setup.

  • Transcoder (TC): Converts voice channel coding between the mobile network and the public switched telephone network (PSTN), optimising bandwidth usage.

  • Base Transceiver Station (BTS): Facilitates wireless communication with mobile devices, comprising radio transceivers and antennas.

  • Mobile Switching Center (MSC): Coordinates call routing, mobility management, and interconnection with external networks.

Evolium Multi-standard Base Stations: These base stations are designed for flexibility, supporting GSM, GPRS, EDGE, and UMTS standards within a single, modular platform. This multi-standard capability allows operators to deploy and expand networks efficiently. The base stations are available in various configurations to meet diverse operational requirements:

  • Indoor Cabinets:

    • Small/MBI3: Compact units suitable for space-constrained installations, supporting up to 8 TRXs for GSM and up to 6 power amplifiers for UMTS.
    • Medium/MBI5: Larger units offering higher capacity, accommodating up to 12 TRXs for GSM and up to 12 power amplifiers for UMTS.
  • Outdoor Cabinets:

    • Small/MB01: Designed for external environments, supporting up to 8 TRXs for GSM and up to 3 power amplifiers for UMTS.
    • Medium/MB02: Offers expanded capacity for outdoor settings, with support for up to 12 TRXs for GSM and up to 6 power amplifiers for UMTS.

Technical Specifications:

  • Frequency Bands: Supports GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz and UMTS bands.
  • Output Power:
    • GSM: Up to 45.44 dBm (35W) for GSM 1800, and up to 47.78 dBm (60W) for GSM 1800.
    • UMTS: Standard output power of 43 dBm (20W) per carrier, with options up to 45.44 dBm (35W).
  • Receiver Sensitivity: Exceeds standard requirements, with UMTS sensitivity up to -125 dBm.
  • Power Supply: Operates on 40–72 V DC or 187–264 V AC, accommodating various power environments.
  • Operating Temperature Range:
    • Indoor Units: -5°C to +45°C.
    • Outdoor Units: -45°C to +55°C.
