The Marconi OMS 1200 (Optical MultiService Metro‑Edge) is a high-performance SDH add/drop multiplexer engineered for metro-edge applications. Designed to support mixed TDM and packet traffic, it delivers Ethernet, PDH, and SDH services over a single, scalable platform, making it a cost-effective solution for networks transitioning from legacy to carrier-grade IP infrastructure.
With an efficient modular design, the OMS 1200 family includes compact (OMS 1240) and full-size (OMS 1260) sub-rack variants. Each system incorporates a non-blocking core switch—5 Gbit/s for STM‑1/4 systems and 10 Gbit/s for STM‑4/16 configurations—ensuring high-density service aggregation and deployment flexibility. The platform supports dynamic bandwidth cards, including multi-rate SDH tributary units and high-density Ethernet modules, enabling seamless service delivery in metro access, DSLAM aggregation, broadcast, mobile backhaul, and enterprise environments.
Built for reliability, the OMS 1200 offers robust protection features such as 1+1 line protection (MSP), ring switching (SNCP), and MS-SPRING for STM‑4/16 networks. Redundant core cards, power supplies, and hot-swappable modules help ensure carrier-class availability and simplify on-site maintenance.
Ideal for both legacy TDM and evolving packet-centric networks, the OMS 1200 facilitates smooth service migration through technologies such as GFP encapsulation and Ethernet over SDH. It supports a wide range of services—including broadband, IPTV, VoIP, VPN, and business connectivity—and can be managed through Ericsson’s ServiceOn Optical Element Manager or local terminal interfaces.
