The Alcatel 1640 FOX, a component of Alcatel’s Optical Multi-Service Nodes (OMSN), serves as a specialized solution for extending the benefits of Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) technology to customer premises. It’s designed to facilitate the integration of diverse data services such as SDH, ATM, IP, and Ethernet, directly into the customer’s locale. This platform’s capability to blend traditional SDH reliability with modern data-aware functionalities makes it a valuable asset in metropolitan and regional networks, especially for medium to large businesses seeking high-speed data communication solutions.
We are able to offer the following support for this product:
The Alcatel 1640 FOX is a synchronous multi-service node optimized for optical access services. It can function either as a Terminal Multiplexer or an Add Drop Multiplexer, making it adaptable for use in various network topologies including spur, ring, or meshed configurations.
Network Interfaces: It offers STM-1 or STM-4 network interfaces for connectivity to central office access networks.
Customer Interfaces: The platform supports a wide range of interfaces, including 2Mbps, 34Mbps, 45Mbps, STM-1, STM-4, and Ethernet 10/100 and Gigabit Ethernet SX/LX for direct LAN connections.
Configuration: The 1640 FOX’s chassis accommodates three card slots – one for a Compact ADM-1 or ADM-4 card providing 2 x STM-1 or 2 x STM-4 connectivity, and two for customer services such as 16 x 2Mbps and 11 x Ethernet 10/100 BaseT ports.
Multi-Service Capability: Enables the delivery of multiple service types including SDH, ATM, IP, and Ethernet, allowing for versatile use cases from DSL backhauling to corporate networking.
Integrated Service Adapters (ISAs): Can host ISA modules for ATM switching or IP/MPLS routing functions, adding to its versatility in handling various data traffic types.
Traffic Aggregation and Switching: Directly maps traffic from customer interfaces onto SDH Virtual Containers or processes it through ATM/IP modules for efficient data service delivery.
Flexible Deployment: Its symmetrical architecture and compact design allow for wall-mount or desktop applications, fitting into diverse installation environments.
Network Optimization: Supports statistical multiplexing for cell- or packet-based traffic, optimizing bandwidth utilization and enhancing service revenue potential.
Reduced Operational Costs: Common replaceable units within the OMSN family and simplified training requirements contribute to lower investment and operational expenses.
The Alcatel 1640 FOX is an exemplar of how legacy telecommunications equipment can still offer substantial value in modern networks, providing a bridge between traditional SDH services and the demand for high-speed data communications.
